In the Indian automobile market the Maruti Suzuki India Limited has always been a trend setter. In the hatchback segment there are some automatic cars. But Maruti Suzuki has introduced the hatchback Celerio with AMT (Auto- manual transmission) gear box. The petrol variants of the Celerio including the AMT variants launched in February 2014 is already very popular in India. The maruti Suzuki celerio diesel variants have been added in June 2015. The Celerio has sales figures of over 6000 units per month on an average and the car is already in the list of the top ten bestselling cars of India.
The Maruti Celerio comes in 7 petrol, 1 CNG and 4 diesel variants in trims of LXi, VXi, ZXi, ZXi Optional, LDi, VDi, ZDi and ZDi Optional. The 3 variants the LXi AT, the VXi AT and the ZXi AT have AMT gear boxes. The Celerio is priced Rupees 3.09 to 5.71 lakh.
The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has a sporty look with the external features likewraparound head lights, a wider grille with 2 horizontal Chrome slats, wider air dam on the body coloured bumperflanked by fog lamps (for ZXi version only) and a ribbed roof. The ZXi variant has internally adjustable body coloured ORVMs with turn indicators and body coloured door handles.
The cabin of the Celerio is spacious because of the large wheel base of 2425 mm. The standard cabin features include fabric seats, a manual AC, child lock facilities, partially folding rear seat and an engine immobiliser. The ZXi and ZDi variants have one airbag, central locking facility, tilt adjustment for the steering, power windows, a rear wiper and defogger and a 1 Din music system with Bluetooth for telephony. The Optional variants have 2 airbags, an ABS, an adjustable driver seat and a multi functional steering wheel.
The Maruti Celerio gives top mileages. The 998 cc, 67 bhp and 90 NM torque petrol engine gives mileages of 23.1 kmpl. The diesel variants give mileages of 27.62 kmpl with the 793 cc, 46 bhp and 125 NM torque engines. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 13.3 seconds and the top speed is 140 kmph.
The dimensions of the Celerio are 3600 mm length, 1600 mm width, 1560 mm height, 2425 mm wheel base and 165 mm ground clearance with a boot of 235 litres. The suspensions are McPherson struts at the front and the 3-link axle at the rear. The base variants have R13 tyres and the top ones R14 tyres.
Stylish exteriors, affordable prices and top mileages are the plus points of the Celerio. The competition comes from cars like the Ford Figo, the Chevrolet Beat and the Hyundai i10.
